India Dethroned From Test Rankings……

The formidable England bowling-attack demolished India’s batting line-up before tea on Day 4 to win the four Test series 3-0 with one game still remaining.  The hosts defeated the visitors by an innings and 242 runs to register an emphatic win and wrest the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test ratings from a floundering India.

MS Dhoni was left stranded on an unbeaten 74 off 79 balls at the end of the match post-lunch; wickets had fallen thick and fast right through the first two sessions. James Anderson led England’s bowling attack with a four-for while Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan took two wickets each to help seal the inevitable win.

Earlier, James Anderson removed Gautam Gambhir off his first delivery of the day as the batman tentatively nudged the ball to Graeme Swann at second slip. In his next over, the pacer picked the key wicket of Rahul Dravid, the only Indian batsman who has so far been able to hold his own successfully against the English pacers. An outswinger seemed to have taken the edge of the veteran cricketer’s bat before Matt Prior took the catch.  A few overs later, Anderson claimed VVS Laxman caught behind to complete his four-for.

Losing three wickets in the first hour of play, India were stumbling with just 56 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets as the England bowlers continued to tighten their stranglehold on the game and series. Suresh Raina got a life while still on a single run as Andrew Strauss dropped him off Graeme Swann, but a while later, the spinner trapped him leg-before.   (more…)

Match Result: England Beat India by 319 Runs.

Match Report
                             -By Pushpendra Nandi

After a forgettable 1sttest, it all began merrily for Dhoni’s men. Winning the toss and putting England into bat, the Indian bowlers had their tails up and folded England’s top and middle order for merely anything. But it was again the tail that wagged; Stuart Broad (64) continued his good form with the bat well accompanied by Graeme Swann (28) to post a respectable total of 221.

With around 20 over’s left to play before the end of play on day 1, England and Anderson began perfectly by bagging Mukund on the very first ball. But then the ever so reliable pair of Dravid-Laxman saw the day off. They continued their good work on day 2 before Laxman edged one to Prior of the bowling of Bresnan.

In came the little master only to be greeted by a rapturous applause which has become a norm from his expectant fans expecting his 100thpearl. But he couldn’t accompany Dravid for long as he was picked up by Broad. Dravid found an able companion in the form of Yuvraj who was looking to cement his dodgy place in the 1st 11 as they went past England’s total and began to build up a lead before Yuvraj fell for 62.

Contrary to the England tail, Indian’s fell like a pack of cards all thanks to Broads little hat-trick though Harbhajan being a bit unfortunate.

Amidst all this Dravid “The Wall” joined an illustrious list of two, Sunil M. Gavaskar and Brian Charles Lara for completing his 34th century. India, ending their innings on 288, with a lead of 67. Read Full Report
